How it all began

I originally came to Pilsen to study medicine. That path didn't work out, but I met my husband and fell in love with the city. Having children was never the plan, which made the pregnancy all the more of a shock at first. We have two sons, but I was pregnant four times in total.

I have experience of pregnancy termination in the second trimester due to an unfavourable medical prognosis, as well as perinatal loss in the first trimester.

The point that changed everything

The human body and its workings have always captivated me, but during pregnancy that fascination took on completely new dimensions. Everything I had known about myself and my body up to that point was suddenly different.

Birth was also an experience unlike anything else. That is exactly why I decided to become a doula – to be close to women during this irreplaceable period: in pregnancy, through the intense experience of birth and the transformative postpartum weeks.

"I never allowed my disability to limit or define me."

I have a physical disability (cerebral palsy) and walk with crutches. I know how challenging it can be to stand your ground when faced with medical authority.

The idea of a disabled doula may seem controversial – but I have never allowed my disability to limit or define me. I have 10 years of competitive swimming behind me, have climbed a 15-metre wall and navigated white-water rapids.
